June 2025 - Monthly Projects Update

ree

CCWUI Project

  •    Through May 31, $878,622.21 out of $8,048,150.00 (10.92%) in CWDG Project Funds have been spent.

  •    Elk Ridge Subdivision: A subcontractor, Pa and Sons, began forest thinning and defensible space work in Elk Ridge subdivision in April, and they should finish work in Elk Ridge this fall. Pile burning will occur starting this winter.

  •    In April, heavy equipment began forest thinning and fuel break work on a 167-acre unit on the P&M Mutz Ranch just north of Idlewild. This area was finished in late May. This summer, we will be masticating some of this unit as needed to finish up this work.

  •    B-38: A subcontractor, Markit! Forestry Management is being assigned to perform forest thinning and defensible space work in B-38. We plan to have them start work in late July of this year.

  •    Ute Park: About 75% of the site visits have been completed in Ute Park; the remaining site visits will be completed this summer. Some forest thinning and defensible space work has started in Ute Park, and the bulk of this work will begin in earnest in July.

  •    Idlewild: About 250 landowners have signed up to participate. Site visits have begun, and our goal is to complete all Idlewild site visits this summer. We hope to begin Idlewild thinning work this fall or winter.

  •    Taos Pines: Practice Plans and site/property prep (property boundary and utility marking) in Taos Pines should be completed by the end of June, and we will be conducting the few remaining Taos Pines site visits in June and July. Depending upon contractor availability, we hope to start the Taos Pines thinning work in late summer or early fall of this year.

  •    Black Lake: We plan to begin site visits in Green Valley, Garcia Park Road, MLK Blvd, and perhaps Laguna Negra in July with the goal of completing site visits this year. If things go smoothly, we hope to begin forest thinning work here this fall or winter.

  •   Hidden Lake: We plan to begin site visits in Hidden Lake in July. Given the large size of the Hidden Lake properties and community, it may take a while to complete site visits. Once we've completed about 2-3 weeks of site visits, I should be able to give folks a timeline on starting forest thinning and fuels reduction work in Hidden Lake.

  •    Lakeview Pines (includes North Lakeview Pines, El Renzo Ranch, & surrounding areas): A few site visits have been completed in Lakeview Pines, but the bulk of the site visits will begin after we have completed site visits in Idlewild, which should be late summer / early fall of this year. We anticipate continuing and finishing Lakeview Pines site visits next summer.

  •    Site Visit Scheduling: The CWA has been rolling out our online scheduling software (Calendly) for scheduling landowner site visits in Ute Park and Idlewild. We will be emailing out links for site visit scheduling to the communities listed above as we approach the listed timeframes.

Angel Fire Project

  •    The CWA should have a contract for this Project by late July. Once the project officially begins, we'll be meeting with the Village of Angel Fire, Angel Fire Resort, community leaders, and local land management agency representatives to review the proposed treatment areas and make adjustments as needed.

Flying Horse Ranch Fuel Break Project

  •    We’re taking a break on this project until the fall, so not much work has been completed since the end of April.

  •   Through May 31, $1,235,829.58 (67.86%) out of the $1,821,254.00 in CWDG Project Funds have been spent.

  •    Through the end of May, a total of 9,074.41 tons of logs have been removed from the Project Area, generating a total of $428,027.99 in Program Income that will be added to the Project Budget.

  •    Through the end of April, the CWA’s contractor, JT Timber Falling, has completed 311 acres (44.30%) of blowdown treatment out of the 702 acres planned under this Project.

Finally, thank you to those who joined us for our quarterly meeting and fieldtrip on June 18th. We will make an announcement when our next outing will be! Stay tuned!
